After the Turkey furniture industry closed 2019 with 3.5 billion dollars in exports, it sold 578 million dollars in the first two months of 2020.
Istanbul Furniture Paper and Forest Products Exporters' Association announced its export data for the January-February period of 2020. Accordingly, while the exports of furniture were 578 million dollars in the first month of 2020, the increase was 15 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. Iraq, Germany, Saudi Arabia, Libya, the United States and France were the leading markets in furniture exports, while an average of $ 3-3.5 per kilogram was captured.
Stating that furniture exports amounted to 3.5 billion dollars for 2019, Istanbul Furniture Paper and Forest Products Exporters Union President Ahmet Güleç said, “The target we set for 2020 furniture exports was 4.5 billion dollars. We know that we will do this very comfortably, but it caused us to revise the gap that emerged with Covid-19's reduction of China's effectiveness in the market. We are working to capture a five-billion sales chart. ”
Stating that China is in the first place in the world furniture market with its export of 54 billion dollars, Güleç has canceled the CIFF International Furniture Fair, which will be held in Guangzhou, China on March 18-21, and the CIFM Interzum fairs that will take place between 28-31 March. Stating that this s a serious gap, he said:
“The brand value of Turkish furniture is increasing day by day in the international market. “We are the 13th largest producer in the world and we export 36% of our production. Today, Turkish furniture is used in 179 countries. We are one of the sectors and our foreign trade surplus is only three billion dollars in 2019. Our goals are big because we have the power to do this. We want to contribute more to our country and achieve all these goals, but in doing so, we want to make Turkish furniture a brand.”
