Pallet manufacturers are on the brink of bankruptcy!

The increase in prices of timber by more than 100 percent in the last month has brought businesses that produce wooden pallets, which are the lifeblood of logistics, to the brink of bankruptcy.
The increase in prices of timber by more than 100 percent in the last month has brought businesses that produce wooden pallets, which are the lifeblood of logistics, to the brink of bankruptcy. Hikmet Yörür, President of the Pallet Industrialists Association (PALDER), said that they suffered a great deal of trouble due to the excessively rising timber prices. Hikmet Yörür, who wants the raw material needs of the wooden pallet industry, which is the lifeblood of logistics, to be met urgently, requested the support of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for the solution of the problem they are experiencing.

Hikmet Yörür said that timber prices have increased significantly in the last month, so the wooden pallet industry is facing a huge crisis. President Hikmet Yörür pointed out that the price per cubic meter of timber jumped from 400-450 TL to 900-1000 TL at the beginning of March this year and said, “We cannot produce at these prices. If we cannot produce pallets, other factories will have to stop their production. Because without wooden pallets, it becomes impossible to carry and store them. Consequently, the country's exports will suffer from this, ”he said.

"OGM should make very urgent production"

Noting that the annual raw material requirement of the pallet industry, which is 5 million cubic meters, has increased to 8-10 million cubic meters in recent years, President Hikmet Yörür said that if there is no solution to the problem, there will be bankruptcies in the wooden pallet industry.

Emphasizing that the demand for raw materials could not be met and wooden pallet manufacturers were tied up with the high price increase; President Yörür stated that in the past, logs were imported from countries such as Ukraine, Russia and Bulgaria, but that they could not be imported due to the global epidemic, climatic conditions and adverse economic developments.

Mayor Yörür said, “After the increase in the dollar, companies supplying raw materials from abroad also turned to the domestic market. not enough as Ukraine, Russia and Bulgaria logs and timber supply the European countries have turned the route to Turkey. Moreover, this year, due to the winter conditions in our country, sufficient cutting could not be done and the felled forest could not be brought to the warehouses ”.

Hikmet Yörür, who said that with the demand boom, the prices of timber have almost flown, Hikmet Yörür, who stated that they made 6-month and 1-year agreements with their customers over the current price of the log, said, “No one can predict that the prices of log will increase twice in a month. In order to solve this crisis, the General Directorate of Forestry needs to produce timber urgently. We want the cuttings postponed in winter conditions to be started immediately and the logs kept in the field to be quickly drawn to the warehouses and put up for sale. Otherwise, logistics may stop due to bankruptcies that started in the wooden pallet industry. Everyone will suffer from this, ”he said.
