Chinese esports organization FunPlus Phoenix (FPX) announced Wednesday that it has signed a long-term partnership deal with the U.S. furniture design company Herman Miller. Herman Miller will act FPX’s exclusive “facility partner.”
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
It is the first time that Herman Miller has teamed with a Chinese esports organization. In August of 2020, Herman Miller partnered with Overwatch League team Philadelphia Fusion as its official gaming chair partner.
Last year, Herman Miller partnered with Logitech G and provided its first “Embody Esports Gaming Chair.” The goal of the collaboration is to address issues of discomfort and ergonomics that are not solved by currently available gamer-targeted products.
Healthy issues and injury have become an “invisible killer” for professional esports players. On Jan.21, FPX’s League of Legends player Gao “Tian” Tianliang announced that he would leave the pro scene due to chronic pain.
FPX is one of the youngest (founded in 2017) Chinese esports organizations and with a number of non-endemic partners, including automobile maker BMW, smartphone company OPPO, snack food company Oish, PUMA, and Chinese restaurant Cool Fish, as well as live streaming platform Huya, and social media Bixin. Before the organization won the 2019 League of Legends World Championship, it only had three sponsorship deals: Huya, Cool Fish, and B ixin.
