The furniture sector contracted by 5.8 percent in the first half of the year. The most important factor in the shrinkage was the increase in the price of raw materials to the final product. MOSDER Chairman of the Board of Directors Öztaşkın reported that the number of people working in the sector has been decreasing in the first six months.
Furniture sector according to data released by the Turkey Statistical Institute (TSI), shrank 5.8 percent rate in the first 6 months of 2018.
Öztaşkın, who stated that the companies started to reduce the number of workers with the pause in the furniture sector, said: When we look at the first six months of 2018, we see that the number of employees in the furniture sector goes down. Our companies, whose turnovers have been falling day by day, are resisting in order to survive in the sector and not to reflect on the raw material hikes applied to them.
